Anatomically Incorrect

I've had trouble remembering my dreams in anything more than snippets this week.  While I might be able to remember bits and pieces when I initially wake up, once I've showered and gotten ready for the day, they're gone.

So it's obviously hard to write about something that you can't remember.

Up, up, and away

Last night was exhausting.

My husband somehow convinced me that we should enter a float in a parade our subdivision was hosting at the very, very last minute for no other reason than to have a float in the subdivision parade so we somehow pulled a flatbed trailer out of our hats and drove it down to the parade.

Shots Fired

It's a little disconcerting to dream that someone's trying to kill you.  I can only imagine how uncomfortable it is in real life.

In my dream last night, I was leaving work and as I approached my vehicle, I noticed that my sunroof was broken again.  I opened my car door and got in to inspect what may have happened to it and found that my car had been shot through and through.  In the windshield, through the headrest of my seat, through the back seat and then out through the back of the vehicle.  The bullet lodged in a wall behind my vehicle (I must've backed into a parking spot).

Frazzled

This morning I could have told you want I dreamed.

This afternoon, I don't even remember sleeping last night.

I woke up to a child with a swollen face.

It was supposed to be his first day of school.

Exonerated

I'm surprised I dreamed at all last night....my son has some molars moving into position so that they can force the baby teeth out and it's just not made for a pleasant atmosphere in our home.  My child goes through spells of incessant crying and if that doesn't break your heart, it's almost topped by the frustration of not being able to do anything about it except alternate Tylenol and Motrin.  And the worst spells are always at a time when you can't actually give him anything.

Italian Exorcism

I exceeded my own awesomeness levels in my dream last night.  Apparently I'm more than just a pretty face and a writer, I'm an interior decorator with a panache for Italian Renaissance styles and I'm an exorcist on the side.

That's right.  I'm like Walmart, your one stop for everything.  But with more class and a better vocabulary.

I can drive luxury seven-figure sports cars, too.

All over the place

My dream was serioulsy random last night.  Either that or I just remember bits of multiple dreams....but it's still a bit all over the place.  (Sidenote:  the cat is also all over the place this morning.  He can't decide if he loves me and wants to snuggle or hates me and wants to order me around to do his bidding, but he.will.not.leave.me.alone.)

High School Band Reunion

While I voluntarily missed my 10 year reunion a few years ago...last night, a reunion came up that I just couldn't miss!  My High School Band reunion!  My band director contacted all of the band members specific to the years that I was in high school band (that was nice of her) and we were scheduled to get back together for one last hurrah!  My old high school was even kind enough to loan instruments to those who no longer had them.  Not me, though, I still have my trusty old Gemeinhardt flute in the closet of the guest room.

Expelled

I had seven sleep cycles last night.  According to my sleep tracker, I spent more time in REM sleep than Deep Sleep.  I believe it based on the number of dreams I had, however, I tossed and rolled so much last night that I only really remember one.

The one where I got my (youngest) brother-in-law expelled from college on his very first day.

Sleep patterns

Dreaming can be a tough business.  Before I started all of this, my sleep was that interval of rest between my day job.  Now...I'm starting to feel the other way around.  "Oh good, I can go to work and now I won't have to work so hard at having and remembering my dreams."

My boss showed me an app yesterday that you set on the bed with you when you go to sleep and it tracks your sleep patterns and wakes you up at a time consistent with your alarm, but during an optimal point in your sleep pattern.  Since I'm doing the whole dream documenting, I thought it would be interesting to see how my sleep divides out.

All night long

You have to sleep to dream.  Thanks to a snuggly kitty who just could not be bothered to move out of the foot-space on my side of the bed and courtesy of an unbelievably achy arm that still can't believe I physically exerted myself this wekened....I lost five hours of sleep last night.

I want to be a bartender

Me:  (eating) What do you think, Baby?
Husband:  (chewing)  I think you need to write.
Me:  (confused) Write?
Husband:  Yeah, that girl's book made $615,000.
Me:  Oh, I meant about the food.
Husband:  Oh, it's good.

I guess I know who he expects to be the breadwinner.  ;)

Dialing it back

I've decided to dial it back from every day to "on the days that I really remember my dreams."

There were multiple times during the past few nights that I would wake up and I would instantly try to remember everything I could about my dream and narrow it down to "high points" to remember so that I could write about it.

Bigger on the inside

Last night's dream could have started out with HGTv.

A local roofing company bought a residence that had been on the market for years.  It was a huge, beautiful lake home with lots of room but the kitchen was literally a hallway coming off of the entrance from the garage.  No one was interested in it for lack of a usable or easily remodeled kitchen.

I'm my brother-in-law's friend

Last night's dream was completely random and mostly disconnected so this is probably better put in separated or possibly bulleted sections.

First off, I guess I'll start by saying that my husband's little brother stayed the weekend with us and—without fail—after he does, I always have a dream the following week that we've finally bonded and are BFFs.

Clubbing with my parents

The title makes it a little difficult to lead into the first part of my dream where I was so ready to dig out my Christmas decorations because I wanted to decorate my house for something—anything—but all I have in any substantial quantity are Christmas decorations.  (Suffice it to say that I've spent a bit of time on Pinterest lately).

Since I couldn't put up Christmas decorations in August (pretty sure my husband would find the sentence for Murder 1 an acceptable alternative form of punishment over five months of Christmas), I insisted on trying to get all of my guests to come up into the attic and see my decorations in storage.  It was the next best thing.

Very few were actually willing to do this, including my family who opted to go clubbing instead.

If you know my family, you know the hilarity of this notion.  My parents don't drink.  Period.  My mom's only taste of wine was completely accidental, the surprise of it not being juice left a very strong impression on her.  My dad was 50 when he had his first beer and that was only because the doctor recommended it as a quick way to help dissolve some kidney stones that had left him in debilitating pain.  His first beer was a Michelob Lager.  He never had any desire to try anything beyond that, judging by the smell of it I can understand why.

Additionally, my dad and I cannot dance.  Our hips just don't function that way.  I don't know if my mom can, but without a doubt, my dad and I can not and I suspect I've passed that gene on to my son as well.

So if the thought of two fifty-somethings, their two thirty-something daughters and their husbands and their sons (ages eight and five) "going clubbing" wasn't odd enough, the fact that it's my particular family adds an exponent to the odd factor.

But we went anyway.  I'm not sure what the point was since none of us had drinks, danced, or were looking to date.  If it tells you anything, I chose a table next to an outlet so we could keep our phones charged because, yes, I even brought a charger to the club with us.  You're impressed, I know.

But to top that, since there was very little for an eight and a five year old to do in an adult night club (imagine that!), my dad, husband and brother-in-law set up makeshift ski-ball and bowling lanes!  The whole crowd eventually migrated to our lanes and The (Persnoppleschmidt) Clan became the life of the party!

Two for the price of one

Thanks to an explosive first dream, last night brings you two dreams for your entertainment!

Dream #1
The first dream started out in an office that I apparently worked at doing an unknown desk job for an unknown business.  Two knowns, however, were two twin women who were childhood friends of mine.  Both were wearing the bun-on-top-of-the-head hairstyle of a schoolteacher in the late 19th century.  (You girls pulled it off, don't worry!)  They also showed up sans their freckles.

Back to school...again

It's that time of year again!  Back to School is everywhere!

Even though I've been out of college for 9 years now, I was headed back to school in last night's dreams...and as I often am in dreams (but hate to be in real life), I was late!

Goodbye at last

My dream bone popped back into place yesterday.  I put my weight on my foot as I stood up at work and when I did there was an uncomfortable "pop" in my foot followed by a pleasant absence of pain across the width of my foot as there had continuously been prior to that.  It was my dream bone, as I said yesterday, because once it popped back into place my dreams returned.

He called me crazy

Me:  I think I broke my dream bone.
Husband:  Your dream bone?
Me:  Yes.  There are all sorts of pressure points in your feet that are affect other areas of your body.  When I dropped that bucket on my foot, I think it broke my dream bone because I don't remember any dreams for the last two nights.
(Husband came up to me, put his hands on my shoulders and looked me right in the eyes.)
Husband:  You're crazy.
